The Roundup

Thoughts & Other Good Stuff From the Last Month (or so)

Back in the day (I've been at this for 13 years now!) I used to write LOOONNGG weekly newsletters to my audience that actually got really great feedback. GREAT! But they took far too long to create. You see, I'm a bit of a control freak and like to do the writing myself so they eventually fell by the wayside. NOT so great.

Fast forward to today, and my goal as I type is to once again become consistent with sharing good stuff with you - just a little less frequently. I want you to actually be HAPPY to open my emails! I want to make you think, give you actionable tips, share great resources that I've found that I think you'll appreciate and generally add value in any way I can.

Today, I'll share a little of my story so that you can get to know me a bit better.

If you're keen, stay tuned! If not, I won't hold you hostage - you're always free to leave anytime.

Podcast Interview

I was recently interviewed by the lively (and lovely!) Brit, David Ralph of 'Join Up Dots'. The thing that drew me to his show was that his philosophy about life matched mine - so of course I had to make contact. We waxed philosophical on all sorts of topics related to life and business and how they are inextricably linked. I also shared my AHA! moment that led me to the conclusion that Life Doesn't Have to Be Hard!! Pour a cup of coffee or tea & give it a listen.

My little family of 3 moved 8,000 miles (12,000 kms) from Florida in the US to the North Island of NZ back in 2010 (sight unseen!).

What made it a raging success was that each of us (yes, even our then-8-yr-old!) came together and ‘worked as a team’ throughout the process. Here’s what I learned from that experience that YOU can apply to your team, no matter the size:

  1. The mindset we needed to cultivate in order to maintain our sanity through the massive effort of making a major life change was key. We embraced positive expectancy (meaning, ‘we don’t know exactly how every step will look, but we’re gonna’ enjoy it!')
  2. We learned to hold on to our vision, even in the face of some people whose opinions we valued asking us, “Are You Bats*it Crazy!?”
  3. We learned to identify what items were REALLY important to bring with us. **Relating this to business, ensure your team is focused on the 20% of activities that generate the BEST results.
  4. We had to rely on each other once we arrived in NZ for support, encouragement and socialisation, as we had no friends or family there. Your team is your ‘family’ - treat them like it by showing support, encouragement and appreciation often.
